Our flagship Chardonnay. Only made in the very best years, using only the very best parcels of fruit.

This wine was barrel selected from two of our best batches. Barrel fermented in new and seasoned French oak. Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, this wine shows all the great hallmarks we look for in our Reserve Chardonnay. Wonderful intensity from the outset with white stone fruits and a wet slate, flinty reduction carried by a tight and linear line of driving acidity.

Tasting Notes

Pale straw gold.
Roasted hazelnuts, lemon blossom and Tahitian lime.
A tautly wound palate with pithy citrus and tart nectarine. There is a lovely density to the tannin on the mid palate, providing a great structural frame for the just ripe fruits, waxy complexity and racy acidity.
Drinking beautifully now, this wine will also favour 10+ years of cellaring.

There’s plenty happening in this outstanding Chardonnay, although at the moment it’s as tight as a drum. But once you start digging, all the goodies emerge. Complex, layered aromas reveal nutty lemon citrus, cut lime and subtle struck-flint complexity. The palate is tightly wound, yet deeply powerful and highly structured. Stone fruit, lemon zest and a trace of crème brûlée contribute to its complexity and underlying richness. A fine, precise acidity sustains the exceptionally long finish. It was fermented in 500-litre puncheons before spending time on lees until blending, without lees stirring. An outstanding wine with a tremendous future.

11% new oak and zero mlf. This spent five months on full lees in tank before being bottled. There’s always an extra degree of power and oomph in the Reserve compared to the single-vineyard wines. This has aromas of ripe stone fruits, cashew and oyster shell that precede the intense, well-structured and balanced palate. Finishes saline and long. Will only get better over the next six to eight years at least.

Immediately makes an impact, complex, warm, ripe and rich in tone – welcome to the luscious side of Yarra Valley Chardonnay. Plenty of style all round. Brings hazelnut aromas to wood spice, ripe sweet citrus notes, peach and pear and hints of crème brûlée. Palate is slinky and layered with oak defined grilled nuts, almond tart and toast amid ripe citrus, stone fruits, flint. Oak – 10 months in new and seasoned French oak – plays its part well, offering the base of an impressive complexity. A long line of crisp acidity does the rest.

Equally unexpected in its fruit profile as it is joyfully comforting in its presence. Baked apple, raw quince, pencil shavings and yellow pear. It has plenty to give. In the mouth, the aromas become flavours, with the addition of wet stone, more yellow apple and wax. Firm acidity keeps the riper spectrum of fruit in its place, while the phenolics are chalky and the mid-palate is buffered. The finish is long.I would be inclined to suggest a crab feast. Something about the brightness and excitement of this wine calls for interactive eating — and a bib.
