Vibrant purple/red
Nose
A beautiful intensity of white pepper spice and black cherry fruit. Hints of mocha and rum chocolate.
Palate
Bright and alluring flavours of black berries coated in dark chocolate. The cedary oak is submissive and the velvet tannins are gently supportive. The richness of length ensures longevity.

Viognier is only 1.5% of the wine but it still features on the front label. This is grown on vines ranging from 11-27 years old, cropped at 1.5 tonne per acre. It spends 18 months in French oak, 20% new, 225 litre and 500 litre. Roughly 4 weeks on skins. This is a belter of a release. The price is high but the quality stares it down. It’s spicy but rich, firm but flowing. It has a flavoursome, structure-packed kick to the finish. Alcohol warmth is nowhere to be seen. The peppers, the fennel, the herbs, the dried spices. There’s some reductive stink but it’s entirely a positive. It’s a spellbinding wine.

98/2% mostly from the Carr's Vineyard, hand-picked, small batches co-fermented with viognier, cultured yeast, matured in French oak (35% new) for 16 months; 10% Old Beenak Road Shiraz blended in. Given that viognier is only 2%, it technically can?t be shown on the front label (5% minimum), but its impact is little different to 5%. The vivid crimson-purple colour is great, the tannins are super supple and smooth, the oak present and correct, which leaves the fruit as lord of all of it sees, its heart beating strong and true. Great wine.
