Day in the Yarra valley

We start off early with a delightful breakfast at The Sweetwater Café at Chateau Yering, open daily from 7.30am. 60 km from the airport, 50km from Melbourne CBD and just 15 km from Lilydale train station. Enjoy a full cold buffet and an a la carte fully cooked breakfast to choose from.

Energised and refreshed we can step out and begin the Yarra Valley Journey!

With so much at such easy reach the options are endless; a local tour guide can help but we chose to mix and match activities and go it solo!

First off we head to Healesville Sanctuary; 30 hectares (70 acres) of distinctly bush land, to see native wildlife in their natural habitat. Meet and greet with the interesting and unique creatures that call home to the Sanctuary.

Our solo tour then brings us to Yering Station Winery; home of the Yarra Valleys first vineyard and adjacent to its award-winning, architecturally designed winery and restaurant with sculpture garden, where we sit down to a sumptuous lunch and a tasting of the wineries ample wine selection. Quickly stopping off at the cellar door to pick up some bottled treats for home!

With a few more stops on the way, maybe heading to one of the Yarra Valleys many farmers markets we fill up our afternoon with ease.

Time to head back to the Chateau for a quiet and relaxing evening read in the beautiful, inspiring Library before heading down to Eleonore’s Restaurant for dinner. Then it’s out for a stroll around the grounds to unwind and end a perfect Yarra Valley experience!
