2010 Yering Station Fume Blanc

Campbell Mattinson Winefront, October 2010
This Fume Blanc from Yering Station is 100 percent sauvignon blanc and sees three months in oak, 70 percent of this oak new. Which seams like a high percentage of new oak - until you taste it. It certainly has swallowed the new oak admirably. It has distinct, sweet, bubble-gum aromatics and there's a sense of this sweetness in the mouth too, through what you mostly notice here is the creamy, smooth-skinned texture and excellent fruit intensity. Lemongrass, smoking guns, oak-spice, green melon and grapefruit. It's a super drink. Aromatic, soft and intense.
